The history of coffee can be traced back to as early as the 9th century and according to the legend, was first discovered by African shepherds. After observing their goats eat coffee berries, these shepherds soon found increased levels of energy and some even say “dancing” amidst their flocks.
It is said that coffee ingestion on average is about a third of that of water in North America and Europe. Let’s just face it – coffee is an essential part of human life. At Death Before Decaf, we decided to embrace the world’s most beloved and caffeinated drink, diving into the new buzz about coffee head first – cold brew. Frustration ensued us with our inability as coffee lovers to purchase a black, convenient, cold coffee product.
Cold brew coffee literally means exactly as it sounds. It is brewed cold (or at room temperature), and consumed cold. By steeping the beans in unheated water, the resulting flavor of the coffee produces a different chemical profile from conventional brewing methods. You may be wondering why there is so much buzz about cold brew coffee, and it is important to remember that cold brew coffee is entirely different than iced coffee – a method which generally refers to coffee that is brewed hot and then poured over ice.
At Death Before Decaf, we fully embrace coffee as a lifestyle. We are happy to share a new trend with people around us who may not know anything about cold brew coffee. On top of creating a delicious, healthy alternative to sugary, caffeinated drinks, we are ready to actively support local business and community.
